- Irish Dance Survey -- Karen, Monday, February 02, 1:53pm Pacific [3]
Hi
My name is Karen and I go Kwantlen College in Surrey British Columbia. I am currently taking a statistics class for sociological research. The major assignment in this class is to develop a study and analyze the results. I will be doing a study about mothers and fathers, and their involvement with their children in Irish dance. The survey I will be administering is still under development and should be ready around the end of February. The results will not be used for any purpose other then allowing myself to learn how to conduct a study and will not be shared with anyone other then my professor and the participants if they wish. The only requirements are that you are that you have a child in Irish dance and are willing to answer the questions honestly. I do not require your name, so it can be anonymous. Right now I am just interested in seeing how many people would be interested in participating. If you would like to help me out please email me and let me know you would like to participate in the survey. I will then email the survey to you when it is complete, most likely near the end of February. Thank-you for your help!
My email is irishdancestudy@hotmail.com

You brought up good points about the Ceili Dances and Diploma, but generally (except with very young dancers advancing too quickly into Open) one would expect a dancer that starts dancing at 4 or 5 to have covered the syllabus, including the Ceili Dances by the time they are around 12 or 13 when most would be in Open (probably most for quite some time).
I'm wondering why a Mom is promoting and wanting to start classes. Is this Mom also a TCRG? Don't you think that it's up to each individual teacher to organize the classes for their own School? It needs to be started when the dancers are young and incorporated into the actual classes.

There seem to be some schools in our region that have been around for a while that don't have any dancers that recall at the National level.
Are the Possak and McDonnell schools competitive? I know they have been around for the past 10 years or so but don't have the results of some of the younger schools (Blakey, De Danaan ect.)
I'm thinking that it does make a difference which school you go to in order to get the results you want.
