I guess Bruce Weber was wrong too for making SP his #1 recruiting priority - that's right even over SL. They knew they only stand a 1 in 5 chance of getting SL but the odds of getting SP had been narrowed to 50/50 - so they went after him extremely hard. You just dont' realize how many times Weber, McClain and the Illini staff "camped out" in Aurora hoping to sway SP! That wouldnt happen if he wasn't top 2-3 in the state and top 100 nationally (#66 according to Rivals.com) . Some of you don’t like or appreciate SP’s game – that’s fine – that’s your opinion. But don’t say he’s not a good player, that’s just plane wrong!

Not only does SP NOT play a "flashy" game like all the great guards in our great bb state (SL, Justin, Pargo, and even Ellis and Wright) – ALSO he’s been essentially playing on 1 leg most of the summer. He has only now that the traveling circuit is over been able to dedicate the time in the weight room to rehab properly. In fact MSU told him that usually injury’s like his take a full year to fully recover. That’s why they – and most other high D1 programs that were anxious to recruit SP – had no concern over the “disappointed” internet scouts – who were expecting to see a more explosive player this summer.

SP could have easily “taken the summer off” using his leg as a legit “excuse” to not show up at the major events (NBA & Nike camp, Gibbons, Spiece, Big Time, Nationals) – but he chose to play and not make excuses – and rehab later after the playing period was over. His heart alone makes him one of the top players. Not to mention his size, strength, presence (most teams must double and triple team him), versatility in handling and shooting the ball for his size. When his leg strength catches up w/the rest of his body and skill – look out – you still won’t see flashy – you will see unstoppable dominance.

To even suggest that DeAndre Thomas looks anywhere near as good as SP It's a very ugly, hatin stretch. Talk to me when DT looses about 50lbs so he can get up and down the floor. Did he even dunk??? Just more of Mark's CPL bias bull crap.

BTW - sorry for the name calling - didn't mean to hurt your little feelings!^). After all this is just bb chat among a bunch of super knowledgeable/intelligent gents (who don't have anything better to do???)...

I’m out - done
