Subject: Dither question

I have some songs originally recorded and mixed at 24 bits / 44.1 kHz.

Masterization and dithering was done with Ozone 2.

The mixes (after dithering) were then saved (Sound Forge) as 16 bits / 44.1 files.

I would like to try Har-Bal in some of those songs but in the Ozone Dithering Guide it's said: "never apply gain change after dither".

I'm not sure if they're only refering to the file already dithered but still not actually saved as a 16 bit file (in my case through Sound Forge) or they're saying: "never, in no circumstances, no matter what, no matter when, apply gain changes after dither".

English is not my original language and things get much more complicated than they really are.

Anyway, my question is: Can I try Har-Bal in my dithered 16 bits files or it would be better to go back to my original mixes (backed up at 24 bits / 44.1 kHz) and start everything from scratch.

Sorry for such a long question and sorry for my english

Thanks in advance

Itamar
