Filter changes are only realized when you press play. So yes you do have to stop and press play again to hear your latest changes.

The reason for this was simply a matter of complexity. This is a first release and changing the filter characteristic in real time is a non-trivial operation. Rather than delay the release of the product we chose to defer this feature to a later date.

It is by no means optimal but we don't see it being a huge impediment either.
