This sounds like some kind of Mark Madden meme.

What does popularity have to do with a columnist? As far as I can tell, Kevin Gorman writes a better column than Ralph Paulk, John Harris or any of the other full-time columnists at that paper of late.

As for Rutter as the beat guy, I mean, DiPaola, Bendel?

Nobody ever heard of Kaboly until he was put on the beat -- in that line of largely forgettable beat guys. It's the paper and the beat that gave Kaboly his name, certainly not his reporting.
