Date Posted: 23:10:03 06/05/05 Sun In reply to: Craven & Nitasha 's message, "dark demise" on 22:47:45 06/05/05 Sun He had asked her that dreaded question; how could she respond in an honest, yet fitful way? She could not tell him that the child had asked her, nor could she tell him her plans for the future, so what could be said to get her out of the rut she was in now? Yes, Nitasha was quickly becoming a weakness, as Lyra was, but that everything had a con in life, and Baylina supposed that was it. That was why Bay had to learn to fight and protect –so others would not take advantage of her. “I would feel better if she was my own slave –the Sarmatians take pride in their own independence; it isn’t right for me to use something of your own.” Bay lied, thinking quickly to cover up her true intentions. She let nothing slip, making sure that he would have a difficult time seeing through her falsehood. It was not in her nature to lie, and she wasn’t sure she even truly knew how. It had always been natural for her to step around the truth instead of directly fibbing over something, but she had just broken a lifelong tradition. It was not that she believed he could not fend for himself, it was the fact that he acted as if he could not that caused Baylina to hate the way he handled things. The use of inflicting fear on one’s people easily had its limits, though Craven was generously exceeding those limitations. He cared about no one but himself, and nothing but power and more land to conquer. Perhaps if he saw what was really out there –the things that she had encountered in her lifetime, then maybe she could respect him. Bay listened to his next statement and she was forced to think it over quickly. The thought of another learning the art of her personal weapons did not appeal to her, but she knew it took a good ten years to even master it the way she had –and he had only said for a short time. ‘A short time… there must be more to it…’ She thought, not about to fall into a trap or find herself in over her head. “Fine, I’ll see what I can do, but…” she stated, trailing off in the end before continuing, “you only said for a short time. What about after?” She questioned carefully, thinking things through before speaking –something she did not normally do. She kept her eyes locked on him, although only one could even see him; Baylina was trying to read him and his motives for his semi agreement on the matter. Then she looked over to Nitasha, who remained in the same position as before. “If you’ll excuse us,” she told the girl, giving her permission to leave, and expecting her to do as she was told. If anyone tried anything –well by now you’ve figured out Baylina’s way of handling things. Bay’s dismissal was a way to get Nitasha out of there, where she would be more comfortable, knowing that the child was scared stiff. Plus, she wanted to handle things with Craven without the girl there to hear everything; in case something was said that could cause trouble later on...
