I saw this on engadget. It is of interest as Skype have said they will not be releasing a version for Palm OS. It seems there are also problems with PPC too. "They say it’s because the “CPU power and network connectivity of currently available phones” simply aren’t sufficient for making Skype voice calls". If PPC are not powerful enough yet then we'll be waiting a long time before we get Skype on the Palm. "

Just as a bit of fine-tuning, Skype has worked on the WindowsMobile platform for some time now, with the requirements of a 400mhz + CPU, and integrated wifi. However, I've had conversations with WM users connecting over a BT / LAN connection (not BT / GPRS!), where call quality was absolutely fine. The current issues seem to be relating to Smartphones, where VoIP is not working, but IM is possible.

It's a shame that there is little interest in developing a PalmOS version from Skype's point of view, as I would imagine that a fair few PalmOS users would want to take advantage is such software was available. The PalmOS Wifi card is gradually working in increasing numbers of machines, but, it is possible that a BT / LAN connection may suffice. The only real issue is that, if you are in range of a BT connection to a PC (max 100m with a Class 1 BT adapter), for the most part, it would be just as easy to use the PC itself. Whilst Bluetooth access points exist, they are considerably rarer than a wireless access point if you are out and about, leaving wifi as the only practical mobile option.

It'll be interesting to see if, (rather than "how") this develops for PalmOS...

I installed Sunrise on my desktop this weekend and Plucker on my Tungsten E. Does anyone know how you get the two applcations to talk to each other? Is there a tick list of things to do? I have found the documentation for Sunrise a bit minimal.

On Sunrise I have ticked the box to say that the html files are going to a Plucker. I have told it I want to hotsync. Do I need to store the urls into a Sunrise document to get it to work? Do I need to install Python scripting as well? If anyone can suggest a start-up user guide of things to do, I would appreciate it.

The software i am looking for should do the same things the couple does (the pc downloads the rss and Hotsync put them in the palm, then i can read them offline) but sould have the option to download the rss directly from the palm using my cell phone.

Do you know an application i could use??

From Tom, Dearborn Michigan "I just bought a high speed ATP 60X 1GB SD card (there's a nice review at http://www.epinions.com/content_156816346756). It is sweet! It gives me lots of storage space for my mp3 files, photos, and ebooks. Plus it is fast, with transfer speeds of up to 10MB/second. Backups to the SD card are blazingly fast compared to my old card. Even better, the company I bought it from made an error and sent me two of them. I called them about it but they told me to just keep the extra one. I don't need two 1GB SD cards so I'd like to share my good fortune with my fellow Palm Addicts.

If anyone would like to buy this card from me (in its original factory sealed package) please post a reply to this message or contact me privately at tbress@umich.edu. Make sure you tell me how much you would like to pay. I'm hoping to get at least $65 for it but I'll entertain any serious offers. Thanks.

Just came across this site. www.avvenu.com They are in beta but allow you to access all your computer's content using your PDA via their service.

If you enter "avvenubeta" in their promotion code field when signing up, you supposedly get a whole year of free service.

Tried it on my Tungsten C... works great!

    Greetings Palm Addicts,

I'm using Timesheet V1.2.3 on my T2 to track my working hours. Using the Timesheet "export" function, I've exported all my data (20 kb worth) to my SD card as a *.txt file.

Using FileZ I can see that my data is safe on the card, but my question is, how do I access it? I would like to export it to Excel for further processing but can't figure out which application can open or send the file.

I feel like I'm missing something elementary here...any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,
    CJ

I'm looking for a timer, count-down and/or count-up, that will silently notify me with the vibrate mode of my Tungsten T-3. Does anyone know of any programs that will do that?
    Thanks,

Excerpt from the BarginPDA.com review of palmOne Tungsten E2

"As noted, the Tungsten E2 is the third PDA to feature the multi-conenctor. This port allows expansion with accessories like cradles and keyboards. palmOne is working to make more accessories to better leverage this connector going forward."

Does anyone have a feel for the possibility that there might be a return to a keyboard model that plugs into the units connector and has a power pass thru?

This would be similar to the Darfon Portable Keyboards from a year or so ago that were made for the Palm, Compaq iPAQ and a number of other handhelds.

IR and BT keyboards both require batteries but do allow screen rotation.

I prefer the solid "marriage" between keyboard and unit when in the field; though I would like the ability to work in landscape. Perhaps the connector could be afixed to the backrest (where the handheld is placed) and then the backrest could be rotated between the two positions.

Just one persons thinking... anyone care to add theirs?

I just bought a Handspring Razor for my wife. I have a Palm Vx with about 8 or 10 years of collected info. How can I get the two PDAs to sync to the same desktop?

When I tried to sync the new Razor to my old desktop it made me pick a new name, and then created a new folder for her.

I tried dragging all the folders from my desktop into my wife's desktop, but there were lots problems with apps and database files.

If anyone has cracked this nut I would appreciate some advice.

    TIA,
    Brett

    Hi Guys !!!

Why fight over which is better ?? Why not use them together ?? Yesterday i bought my first ppc with phone. An O2 XDA II. But still cannot let go of my Tungsten E. I would like to know if i can use the ppc phone as a wireless modem for my palm (over IR). I must add that the learning curve of the palm os is much much easier than the ppc.

Also please let me know if there are any types of files apart from mp3's and office which can be shared by both the platforms. and some tips / thoughts on how both teh os's can / should live in harmony.... ;)

    Thanx.

I cannot get my Palm 515m to hotsync. I press the button and it goes through the process but does not transfer to my computer. I have tried everythink on the Palm One website. I purchased a new USB chord to see if it was the cradle. It still did not work. I even deleted the software and reloaded it. It said I would not lose my files, but I cannot find them on the computer. Is there anyway to backup my files on the Palm? I read a procedure that requires that you let the battery run completely down. Will this work? I really would like to backup my data. I thought about sending it to another friend's Palm but some files have a lock beside them. I need help please! Thanks!

Has everyone discovered Audible? Great audio books that you download and listen to on your Palm. Travelling to work is so much more fun now (and you can play Bejewelled at the same time!). I don't work for them, just think it is a great idea. Also, it seems to work better on Palms than on IPAQs, which always makes me smirk ;).
EMail me and I will send you the link (and get a free book if you join up, recommend your friends too).
    Cheers,
    Clare.

At the very least, they hurt less when falling on your head while reading in bed. Also, probably a smaller liability when dropped.

Which Palm models currently use plastic screens?

    Hi everyone,
I was hoping to find an NetStumbler equivalent for Palm OS devices and couldn't find any software like this. Does anyone know about a Wi-Fi Sniffer like this for Palm ? I have a T5 with a Wi-Fi Card and was hoping to play a little bit with all the WiFi connections you can hook to when walking in the street. Did that with a portable computer, but with a Palm, it would cool too.

    Thanks for your help
