I really like the palmaddict web site. Every day, I convert it to plucker format in the morning, and read it on my Tungsten C later in the day. Anyway, I'm having a problem with Tungsten C's, that I was hoping PalmAddict readers might be able to help me with. I've tried a variety of forums, but haven't really gotten very far going that route. In short, I've had two Tungsten C's, and they've both developed the same problem - the problem is that my digitizers are getting slightly broken. Most of the screen is sync'd up fine between video and digitizer, but the upper right keeps getting out of sync. I'm pretty sure it isn't a software problem, because if I do a hard reset and test before installing any software at all, I still have the same problem.

Also, I've tried "the paper trick", IE sliding a piece of paper around the edge of the display under the plastic, but that doesn't help. I'm pretty sure the breakage is related to dropping my T|C, even though
I've had both of them in an Aluminum+Neoprene case. I RMA'd the first palm back to palmone, but the replacement broke in almost exactly the same way in less than a week!

What can I do to prevent this from happening again? And is there an easy way I can do the repair myself - EG, maybe opening the case and reseating some sort of connector? Has this been happening to any other T|C owners?

Subject: Ridiculous names for new Palm device

    Author:
    PJ Arts
    [Edit]

    Date Posted: 04/03/05 Sun

Marketing people used to give us snappy slogans, and jingles:

    - "You deserve a break today" (McDonald's)
    - "It's better in the Bahamas" (guess)
    - "Put a tiger in your tank" (Esso...later Exxon)
    - "You're in good hands..." (Allstate Insurance)

The best slogan that McD's can come up with these days is: "I'm lovin' it?"
Now, instead of clever, original jingles, all we get to hear are the abused remnants of classic rock, shilling the most mundane of consumer products.

Automobile names used to evoke excitement:

    - Mustang
    - Barracuda
    - Spitfire
    - Galaxie

Now, car names have the maximum wimp factor dictated by out PC society:

    - Freestar (oooh, it gives me the shivers!)
    - Magentis (obviously named for Magellen's less talented brother)
    - Camry (that was the name of the kid in 3rd grade with really bad acne)

HOWEVER, nothing beats the rush to come out with retarded names for corporations, or their products. Consider these brilliant changes:

    - marchFIRST (formerly Whittman-Hart). After the name change, the stock dropped 80% in 6 months, and the company went bust 6 months after that
    - Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting). Considering what happened to their former parent company, maybe the name change WAS for the best!
    - pa1mOne (formerly PALM). WHY?! It's so bloody silly

So, here's the pitch: the word on the street is that the new, blockbuster Palm device...the one that's going to remake their fortunes...has the remarkable name of "Life Drive." C'mon, that sounds like exercise equipment, or a new competitor for Viagra.

I'd like to challenge the Palm Addicts to imagine that they are writers for Mad Magazine, The Beano, Monty Python, SNL, or the 'Naked Gun' movies. Let your most warped ideas run riot, and submit the looniest name for the new p1 device that you can. I'll take the 5 looniest, and personally send them to Ed Colligan at p1 for his reaction.

OK...I know you're all closet wackos...let's see what you've got!

I -love- my Tunsten C. It's revolutionized many parts of my life, not least the way I go about my workday.

But, I'm on my second T|C now, and it has almost exactly the same problem my first one had: the digitizer is getting broken in some subregion of the screen, and not quite the same subregion from one T|C to the next.

Last time, I shipped my T|C back to PalmOne, and they sent me a replacement, but it wasn't long before that one had the same problem.

I'm guessing that the problem is that I sometimes drop my palm, and the aluminum+neoprene case I'm using isn't preventing the breakage.

I'm on the edge of switching to some other kind of PDA - though I don't know where I'd find something else with high res, decent support, and especially: 802.11b.

What can I do to prevent this from happening again? Is there anything I can do to fix this myself, or am I best off just going back to PalmOne again, and hoping for the best?

    Thanks!

I have managed to pull the two NotePad prc files off a Tungsten T5 from someone a while ago while tinkering on my own and read about the two compression files here on PalmAddict. So far am unable to load the two compression files. The Treo 650 will absolutely NOT accept them. I've tried transferring from a card, beaming, bluetooth AND hotsyncing. Is there a trick to this? Why not have auto set up for ICS for certain WIndows OS such as XP Home foreasy as connectto Internet through Phone Link from Tungsten T3 ?

I admit, I absolutely adore ebooks. It seems that most of the books I read are science fiction or fantasy books, and are quite often long (in the realm of 1,000 pages). I love the simplicity of carrying around my T|C with ebooks on it (currently, I have 14 ebooks in my library). My back also loves me carrying around my T|C with ebooks--it's a lot lighter than lugging around hardback copies of said books!

The only downside to ebooks in my mind? Not being able to take them into the tub to do some reading while relaxing. ;)
Oh well, I guess you can't have everything...

Does anybody know if there is a way to improve the WiFi signal to my T|C?
It seems that my ability to see the network is really hit or miss. Sometimes, I can be in my room (through a wall and about 20' away from the router) and pick up the signal fine, other times I can be practically sitting on top of the router and get nothing.

I'd love to be able to use my T|C for more things, but without the WiFi working consistently, I'm kinda stuck...since I saw that more and more people here have T|C's, I figured I'd ask here. Any ideas?
    TIA!

If a Palm device crashes it's so much quicker to re-boot than a Pocket PC especially if your using a program like Crash!

I would like to see a futur palm a little bit bigger which could fill the gap between a palm and a tablet pc and that offer a bigger screen (vga). A device that would be ideal for IT workers and which you can work on it all day long without having eyes strains and a keyboard on it to , all the wireless gimmicks , and a usb port on it (not the palm connector)... like that device on this link but less expensive and on palm os : http://www.oqo.com/store/shop.cgi/op/op_index.html

    Hey Gang,

I just recently noticed your little blurb on Two Inch Town from Arcane Journeys and was wondering if you folk know about the other games they make?

My personal favorite has to be Solitaire Adventure! Its a very bizarre hybrid of a solitaire card game, RPG, and a strategy game that's DARN addictive! You as the adventurer are placed in front of 7 face up piles of "cards", almost like a game of free cell, except each one of these cards represents some encounter (a new spell for your collections, some treasure, or a baddy you must vanquish, etc.). Your mission is to clear off all of these cards and the skill comes in knowing which order to take on all of these encounters. You can only deal with the bottom card of each column so if you want that big pile of treasure you see up one of the columns you may have to fight a few baddies first. The game's RPG aspect comes in by the fact that you can use cash you've acquired in the game to build up your various skills (be it one of the game's spells, lock picking, toughness, etc.). The game has many scenarios to choose from (these determine the game's relative difficulty, game length, and types of encounters you'll run into) or, if wanting a bigger challenge you can embark on a campaign of 2-6 linked scenarios (with all of the cash, health, and skills built up in once scenario carrying over to the next). Also, while a given scenario sort of shapes the parameters of your game, the exact layout of even the same scenario will be different everytime you play! Enough of my ranting, go see it for yourself:
