Author: Baron Fen Kirand
Subject: Rook to Bishop Four
In reply to: Lord Dormair ap Scathach 's message, "Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave(NJ)" on 12:01:32 11/21/03 Fri

Fen picked up the parchment in fingers warmed by his leather gloves- the Baron was rarely seen without them. He turned his eyes up to the Seer, reminding the powerful Scathach who remained in charge of this particular situation.

The relationship he had with his most important vassal had always been tense and strange, though casual relations were not common to Fen in the first place. There was little reason to relax when things seemed to be going well- but now, as mysteries swirled about him, there remained no reason to be off his guard. Few things irritated the Baron more than not knowing precisely where he and his enemies stood.

The Countess had not sent word in nearly two months of absence- the foppish Chancellor- her brother Eusidean- had done nothing to maintain an air of composure within the County. The rumours had grown wings, and what was left to whirl around common tongues was bound to cause rebellion if things continued as they had.

And there was trouble at Lord Detrik's estate- nothing so much that he would worry, nor could he determine the nature of what transpired, but there was a ripple in the fabric of his Barony in that direction. It was unusual when the strange and reclusive Detrik appeared in his liege's visions. It was only one more reason for urgency.

He split the seal on the scroll without removing his eyes from Dormair's. "I trust you'll not be concealing anything from me this time.." The Scathach nodded, and it made the Baron's teeth ache. He gave him a venomous half grin before turning his attention to the message.
