I'm sticking to my Times New Roman. Most guidelines I've read where they specify a font ask for it, but most of them don't say anything about a particular font. I don't really think most reasonable editors are actually hung up on things like font choice(unless you pick something weird), paper clips, envelope tape and so on. I think the point is, they want a neat, professionally presented ms., and more to the point, one that's well-written.

Roger was telling about his experience as a first reader, and I know from my brief career as a freelance editor that there's an unbelievable amount of CRAP out there that passes for fiction writing. I'm not trying to be a snob, but I think the fact is that most people don't take the time to learn the rudiments of writing -- grammar, spelling, basic rules of composition -- before they send things out. After all, before you break the rules, you have to know what they are.

Anyway, how did I get on to this?*** Hmmm...well, if they don't like my font choice, go ahead and reject me. I switched to Courier for a while, but I didn't like it.

Cheers,

Lori
