Tom -
This would be more helpful if you would tell us what "Tom Fleming's...recommendations to Jack Maab" were? What is Tom suggesting? How has the BoE responded? What has Jack said? Your posts would be better received if they had factual information in them, rather than just innuendo.
As I've said before, I agree with your call for an independent, locally based newspaper - but what is happening with that? Is anyone organizing an interest group to try to start such an effort?
I have deleted a number of your posts - as I promised I would. If they don't contain any facts, are chat-board style babbling, contain gratuitous insults and are pointless, they will be deleted. It has nothing to do with your "opinions" - rather it is based on your mean-spirited disparaging of others, your incoherence and the irrelevance and/or inappropriateness of what you are posting. It's that simple.
I'm glad Mary is following up on the proposed waterfront plan. The waterfront is one of Hudson's greatest resources, and one of the major reasons for opposing the SLC proposal was that it would have dominated the waterfront in a negative way and stunted growth of other economic opportunities in the shadow of its smelly, loud, dirty industrial activities.
If you look in Catskill, Saugerties, and especially Kingston, you'll see what waterfront development can do for a town - and these developments are only in their infancy. Hudson has an opportunity on the waterfront that could be a very good thing for the City, if it is properly handled. We should all be working to decide how best to develop this resource in a way that benefits all the people of the City.
As far as the tire-burning question is concerned, the DEC is holding a public hearing at the Bethlehem school on Route 9W in Bethlehem on Thursday at 7pm. If you have any interest in hearing the facts about this proposal so that you can make an informed decision, you should be there.
Tire-burning in cement kilns (as opposed to facilities specifically designed for and dedicated to tire incineration) is a highly-controversial process, with lots of evidence of negative effects. Air quality in the Upper Hudson Valley has already declined to the point where it is among the worst in NYS. Should we add the dangerous chemical emissions from kiln-tire-burning on top of what we already have? Do you want to breathe more crap?
Known and scientifically demonstrated emissions from tire combustion in cement kilns include dioxins and furans - the MOST potent carcinogens yet discovered, that even in tiny quantities can have devastating effects on human health. Is it okay with you if your family and neighbors are subjected to higher levels of such pollutants, when you KNOW without a doubt that some people will develop cancer as a result of that exposure?
Think about it, Tom. Find out the facts, and then tell us what you think -and why you think it.
