We crane down through the branches of trees as we see Dawn and Xander sat cross legged at the head of a grave stone. Dawn’s looking a lot more grown up in a spaghetti strapped, tan top with shoulder length, highlighted hair. DAWN You can’t say that XANDER I’m not being a racist Dawn! DAWN You so are! XANDER I just don’t like demons DAWN What about Clem? XANDER Dawn, you don’t even know where he is DAWN But still – you have demon friends. XANDER Name one. Dawn has nothing. Her argument against the banning of demons at his wedding has failed. DAWN Okay, fine. No demons. XANDER Good. DAWN What if we find one’s we like before that? XANDER Do you have like a new fetish? DAWN Eww! XANDER Give it up Dawnie. DAWN Fine, fine. XANDER So, are you nervous about starting college? DAWN No. Yes. I don’t know. I mean – it’s not even a real college XANDER Sure it is. Shouldn’t we ask the other two people that live here? Blank looks all around. WILLOW Buffy and Tara! ANDREW (quiet) Tara. Willow looks a little confused as his eyes widen like a rabbit caught in head lights. Tara has just entered the room. ANDREW Never mind. I have to get to – a place. Andrew dashes off before Tara finishes saying “Hey” TARA W-was that Andrew? DAWN (Clearing plate) Surely was TARA It’s early DAWN Surely is Tara sits at the edge of Willows chair as Willow runs her fingers through her hair and gives her a kiss on the head. TARA Did… DAWN She called an hour ago. TARA She got there okay? DAWN (quiet) Yeah. WILLOW I can’t believe it’s taken us four months to get hold of her CUT TO. EXT. HOUSE – DAY Buffy stands outside a small mobile home as a yellow cab drives off. She’s looking drained. Her hair is a mousy brown, hanging below her shoulders in waves. She stairs at the house – glazy eyed. TARA (V.O) It’s going to be hard for her. Telling Faith’s Mom. FADE TO BLACK. EXT. TRAILER – DAY Buffy stands nervously at the door – she goes to knock but stops and starts back down the path as the door swings open. She’s tall and skinny. Pale. She wears bright red lipstick and has peroxide blonde hair with darker roots. She dresses a lot younger than she can pull off. PEG Yeah, walk away! We ain’t buyin’ anything. PEG picks up her paper and stumps her cigarette out on the wall as Buffy stops and turns around PEG What? BUFFY Are you Peggy? PEG I’m Peg. Who’s asking? BUFFY My names Buffy Summers, I’m… PEG What kind of a name is that? BUFFY I’m from California PEG ‘nough said. What can I do you for? BUFFY I’m a friend of Faith’s. PEG Who? BUFFY Faith…she…I think I’ve got the wrong place. I’m sorry to bother… PEG I know a Faith. What’s she done now? BUFFY Oh, sorry I thought that… PEG She been arrested again? BUFFY No she. PEG Not good for anything that child BUFFY She’s dead! (practically silent) She died. Peg’s face freezes it’s expression – a frown. She doesn’t say a thing. Both stand in complete and utter silence. Staring at each other as a cat rubs around Buffy’s legs. PEG You’d better come in. Buffy steps forward and edges into the house. The door slams shut as…another door opens. CUT TO. INT – SUMMERS HOUSE – DAY DAWN Hello? A very slim, dark haired and nervous woman is stood in the door way REBECCA Hi…I’m Rebecca, um, Rebecca Porter DAWN Porter? (shock) Amanda’s Mom? REBECCA Yes. END OF PART ONE. EXT – UCSD – DAY Andrew is walking across the grounds with one of the lecturers who seems pretty keen to get to an elsewhere. ANDREW So, I just go here and then sign up? LECTURER Yes. ANDREW Do I get a dorm? LECTURER Sorry you missed accomodation application ANDREW Oh okay, what about a camera, will I need one? LECTURER For photography. Yes. ANDREW Will I need a lab for chemistry? LECTURER No. ANDREW What about the cafeteria – do they have warnings about traces of nuts because I’m like allergic and I’ll go all red and… LECTURER MR. WELLS! ANDREWS Bloated. LECTURER (sigh) Go to the Westminster building and they’ll tell you what to do. I have a class. The lecturer walks off ANDREW Thanks! Andrew looks around as people buzz around all over the place, someone crashes into him ANDREW Sorry (quiet) Where’s the Westminster building? Andrew walks on a bit, looking at his map as he crashes into someone. ANDREW Sorry… It’s Tara. TARA Are you lost? ANDREW No, no I know where I’m going. Tara looks down at his forms TARA You’re walking away from it. Tara points to the building next to them. Westminster building. ANDREW I was just…looking for a soda machine. TARA You want me to show you? ANDREW No. Thanks. I have a meeting. TARA I thought you wanted a… ANDREW I changed my mind. Andrew continues scuttering on up the path as Tara looks on. Baffled. CUT TO. INT – DINING ROOM – DAY Willow comes storming through as Spike follows, tying up a towel around his waist. SPIKE My bloody waters broken WILLOW It’s called a lock Spike! SPIKE Oh, please! Like you’ve never seen it before (beat) Well. WILLOW Hey! I’ve seen it! I’ve seen yours and it’s nothing I wished to see again. SPIKE Didn’t convert you then? WILLOW Ugh! DAWN (from doorway) Guys – can you keep it down, I have a guest. Dawn walks back through to Amanda’s Mom. DAWN Sorry about that… REBECCA You were a good friend to her, weren’t you? I mean – she stayed here a lot. DAWN I guess. I mean…I was, yeah. REBECCA It’s her eighteenth birthday today. That’s why I…I just needed someone to talk to. DAWN It’s okay. I just…I wish things could’ve gone differently REBECCA smiles before standing. REBECCA I have to go now. But, thank you for listening. DAWN Anytime – if I can do anything, you know where to find me. REBECCA Of course. Dawn closes the door quietly. A tear in her eye. CUT TO. INT – TRAILER – DAY Peg sits opposite Buffy, she has a large brandy in her hand. PEG You smoke? BUFFY No! Thank you. PEG Drink? BUFFY Wouldn’t be a bad thing about now. PEG So, how long did you know Faith for? BUFFY Six years give or take PEG You were close? BUFFY We…had a connection yeah. PEG Are you her lover? BUFFY God no! PEG Why are you here? BUFFY Because – I had something that I needed to tell you about her… Buffy looks around the room. There’s not a single picture of Faith. BUFFY When did you and Faith last speak? PEG She was about nineteen. She left home, moved to California – guess that’s when she met you BUFFY She was sixteen. PEG Nah-ah. My daughter wouldn’t have been allowed to travel so… BUFFY Have you even spoken to her since? PEG Well, I… BUFFY Did you know she spent eight months in a coma? PEG Are you calling me a bad mother? BUFFY Did you know that she went to prison for three years? PEG That’s a surprise. BUFFY Did you even remember she exists? PEG Of course I did! You know, who are you – some upper class Californian rich kid coming here and throwing around accusations like your mess smells of roses. BUFFY Actually, my house smells more of blossom shimmer. We use air freshener. Ever hear of it? PEG Get out of my house, go on. Leave! BUFFY You know – I think I maybe realise where Faith was coming from PEG What does that mean? BUFFY You need to hear some things about your daughter. About what you did to her. CUT TO. INT – SUNNYDALE HIGH – DAY Willow, RJ and Dawn are walking through the cafeteria talking. DAWN So, principal huh? WILLOW I know it’s… you guys graduated four months ago – why are you here? DAWN College doesn’t start for me yet RJ Free period. WILLOW Isn’t it your first day? RJ Yeah WILLOW Man, I miss college. I don’t have a free period until Thursday. DAWN Don’t you decide when the free’s are free and who’s free to be free in them? WILLOW What? RJ I think she meant “You’re the principal. Give yourself time off” WILLOW Oh. DAWN You meeting Tara for lunch? WILLOW Yeah, she sounded kinda upset on the phone. DAWN Is she okay? WILLOW I don’t think it’s anything, you know, balls of tears-y, but she was a little off. DAWN Let me know RJ Anyword on when Vi gets back? WILLOW We don’t even know if she’s coming back. She hasn’t said anything yet – last we heard from her was July. DAWN I guess, now that she’s normal again she wants a chance to see her family. It must’ve been pretty tough being away from them. Spike pulls on the handle again before shaking his head, taking a step back and kicking the door off it’s hinges as Rebecca is about to lower a nail gun towards Willow. He leaps through the air and tackles her. REBECCA You! SPIKE You too! Spike punches her WILLOW Spike stop – she’s not a demon! Spike stops and Rebecca grabs the gun, slamming it against Spikes stomach and releasing a nail. He roars, falling back in pain. Willow struggles free and smacks a large file across Rebecca’s face, knocking her down and out. WILLOW Spike… Willow rushes to his side. He’s bleeding. SPIKE Advantages of being a super-whatever I am. Always heal fast Willow gives him a half smile SPIKE Don’t look so worried pet, not the first time I’ve been stabbed with somethin’ sharp and metal. Doubt it’ll be the last even this year. Rebecca stirs and comes too. REBECCA You need to suffer for letting my Amanda die. SPIKE Not to be rude. But we had nothin’ to do with that. She’s a slayer – they die. It’s what they do. It was going to happen either way WILLOW Spike! SPIKE It’s the truth. It’s life. It’s real. Rebecca starts crying in the corner as Spike and Willow simply watch on CUT TO. EXT – TRAILER – DAY Buffy exits as Peg watches from the side. PEG Buffy! BUFFY Yeah? PEG Thanks – I know this couldn’t have been easy for you BUFFY It gets easier. PEG Does it? BUFFY It does. Buffy walks over to the cab parked outside. Peg stares at a piece of paper – it has the address of Faith’s plot. She starts crying. END OF PART THREE EXT – HIGHSCHOOL – DAY Tara, Andrew, Xander and Nancy are with Spike and Willow at the highschool. Police are escorting Rebecca off of the premises as Andrew finishes wrapping up Spikes bandages ANDREW There! SPIKE Check out the built in nurse Andrew gives the proudest smile TARA Are you okay baby? WILLOW A little shook up – I mean, this wasn’t a demon. This was – it was so real XANDER You’re okay, that’s what’s important WILLOW Thanks to Spike SPIKE Don’t mention. INT – BATHROOM – NIGHT The flashing lights stop as D’HOFFRYN appears D’HOFFRYN I suppose I’m wasting my time asking if you’re into vengeance again? BUFFY Rebecca and shut up D’HOFFRYN Wouldn’t it be more wise to tell me to shut up after you get your answers BUFFY You gonna give them to me? D’HOFFRYN Ask a question WILLOW I think you know about Rebecca attacking me today. Vengeance for her daughters death. D’HOFFRYN Ah yes. Well you see – converting her to a demon wasn’t going to happen, after she discovered they had a hand in her beloved Amanda’s death – she was having none of it. BUFFY But you put her on the right path D’HOFFRYN Oh yes. More than a year and she’s the perfect mortal student. It’s such a shame she killed herself forty seconds ago. Willow and Buffy look at each other. BUFFY I’ll make you pay D’HOFFRYN Vengeance talk. I like it. Grapevine tells me there’ll be a lot of that going on this year D’Hoffryn flashes away leaving Buffy and Willow staring at each other END. **After four years on the show, Michelle Trachtenberg has opted for the 'Anthony Stewart Head' route and reduced her role to that of a recurring guest star. As it stands she has finished her first run, appearing in the first six episodes. **One of four "Buffy-Lite" episodes (two will be absent of the character) at the request of Sarah Michelle Gellar. **Kaarina Aufranc is now credited as 'with Kaarina Aufranc' in the guest credits. **First appearance of D'Hoffryn since 7x05 in 2002. **First appearance on the series involving any mention of Faiths pre-Sunnydale life and the parents of any slayer/potential other than Buffy herself. **First ever season premiere not to feature a vampire. **Nicholas Brendon, Tom Lenk, James Marsters & Alyson Hannigan are the only full season members. Despite remaining a regular, Amber Benson is only signed to appear in 18 episodes due to directing two episode and filming a new movie. She will be credited in the main cast for the episodes in which she appears.

A mother wnating revenge for her child's death. As always you've left us things to work out. What's up with Andrew towards Tara and who'd doing the vengence. Would've loved to see a voice-over with flasehes of Faith scenes as she explained to Peg what Fauth was all about. Totally love the little tit-bits at the end explaining about the people who are the characters. Also wouldn't mind having this end up as just Spike, Xander, Willoe and Andrew spin-off :) Enjoyed it again!

The Peg/Buffy interaction is well done and Faith's death is a subject we can identify with. I'm wondering how much Rebecca got from Dawn. That might have explained to us why she went after Willow. Did Dawn imply that all the fighting was for or about Willow? Did Dawn tell about Willow's scythe spell? It just doesn't seem consistent that Rebecca acted one way toward Dawn and another to Willow. I did think "little Summers Girl" meant Dawn. Mysteries remaining are Andrew/Tara and who's doing the vengeance spell. If Rebecca killed herself, will there still be one for her? D'Hoffryn seems to say vengeance is a big arc this season. I'm sure I'm gonna miss Dawn.

In season 3 she said her mother was dead. Now she could have obviously been making that up or implying that her mother was "dead to her" emotionally-speaking... but adding a small line to address this would settle the continuity question.
