Australia's PM Says Government Will Get TV Sports Balance Right
25/11/2010 8:31AM

SYDNEY (Dow Jones)--Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard on Thursday told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio her government will be mindful of the interest of sports fans when it draws up a new list of sports protected for free-to-air television.

The cabinet is due to meet later and decide on a list of sports to be broadcast on free-to-air television, which must then be approved by parliament.

"I obviously want to see Australians being able to enjoy their footy and the sport they care so much about," Gillard said. "Government will work through on this issue to get the balance right and work in the interest of Australian families (who) like watching (football) and other sports," she said.
