More Qantas Engine Woe!

While John Travolta (a devout Scientologist who believes we descended from space invaders) was starring at a glittering Qantas PR stunt in Sydney, a Qantas flight from Perth to Melbourne was forced to return to Perth after the flight crew noticed a problem with an engine.

The crew detected a vibration in the left-hand engine of the Boeing 767

and after performing in-flight checks decided to return to Perth airport.

Some passengers managed to board another flight to Melbourne, and

Qantas said it hoped the remainder could be rebooked on other flights.

Now for the important part: The Boeing plane had GE engines.

The common denominator in all Qantas woes is not Rolls Royce.

Its engine woes stem from a cheapskate management attitude.

What Qantas badly needs is less Scientology and more Science.

Preventative maintenance forestalls oil leaks, engine vibrations,

tyre blow-outs, oxygen bottle explosions, computer gliches,

and catastrophic engine explosions before they happen.

The sad part is: Qantas is so stubborn and anti-union

it can't change its attitude until after a big jet crashes.

If that's what it takes, that's what it will take: bodies.
