MELBOURNE, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Australian shares inched up 0.1 percent on Monday with miners supported by firm copper prices and gold pushing further into uncharted territory.

The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index .AXJO rose 4.2 points to 4804.8, modestly building on Friday's 1.2 percent gain to six-month highs.

Rio Tinto rose 1.1 percent to A$88.18 at 2342 GMT. BHP Billiton climbed 0.4 percent.

New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index .NZ50 slipped 4.3 points to 3314.84.

Orica , the world's top maker of explosives for mines, rose 1.5 percent to A$26.09 fter it reported a 4.6 percent rise in full-year profit, beating market forecasts. See [ID:nSDY7ME65A].

Westpac Banking Corp fell 3.3 percent as it traded exclusive of dividend.

Airline Qantas fell 2.5 percent to A$2.79 as it revealed it is keeping its Airbus A380 fleet grounded beyond an initial 48-hour deadline as it has found potential issues with three engines on two aircraft, a spokesman said on Monday.
