When you compared the Little Prince's death to Hedda Gabler's, I started wondering if perhaps their deaths are opposites--both their means of dying and their motives. With Hedda, she feels the weight of the responsibility bearing down upon her, feels her control slipping away. For the Little Prince, however, it is his responsibility to his rose that makes him want to die--a responsibility which is really a lack of control on his part. Similarly, while Hedda chooses to kill herself, (a last act of control) the Little Prince give up his control, allowing the snake to bite him.
