This brings to mind the idea of how weaker characters contribute to stronger characters' strength. I think that the contrast between Inez and Estelle demonstrates an interesting power play. Inez is the strongest character if we look at strength as similar to courage, which would mean recognizing your own flaws and admitting to them. From this view, then, Estelle is weaker than Inez. However, it is obvious that Inez depends on Estelle. Does this make Estelle the stronger character? Or does this mean that Inez still needs other people to rationalize her existence, and thus she is no stronger than Garcin or Estelle?
