I think this touches on what Jackson was discussing in class. He tries to come across as this vagabond or sort of despondent man’s man who wants personal time and devotes himself to his most sophisticated of thoughts. Truthfully, I think this is ultimately just his reaction to an opposite sentiment. I think he is actually incredibly insecure (as we see in the end) and therefore his attempt to be left alone is really merely a cry for attention and an act of blatant self-indulgence.
