That is an interesting point. I hadn't thought about that, except that his friends and family were there at his death. I wonder if that was foreshadowing of Don Quixote's death. It might also be that Cervantes wanted to show us how people can get sucked into things even though they hated them at first, only to love them in the end.
It is interesting that either way the family and friends of Don Quixote could not change his mind. He wanted to be a knight-errant and he wanted to give it up completely. Nothing they said could change his decision. I wonder if that was his madness or a testament to his determination.
