I agree that Quixote is an optimist, but in the Christian sense of the word. He is an optimist by Faith, a good Catholic, and he excels in the virtue of Hope. It is precisely because he sees all the faults of the world and the Beauty of virtue that he remains so stubbornly optimistic. Light is never so light when there is something dark for it to shine through. The urgency for the light is increased in direct proportion to how dark the world seems.
