I think I want to change my mind about what I previously said, only a little bit though. I don't think that the events on the bridge itself represent that fact that he won't repent. I think its fairly obvious that he won't repent (he's very stubborn), but his not turning around is more of his failure of doing the right thing, or fulfilling his responsibility to others. It is this failure that he needs to later repent but won't. If he had turned around that wouldn't have necessarily been repentance, he would have done what he should have done.
