hello hello members of band. My name is Evie. I think I probably qualify as a fan since I am only the friend of 25% of high vinyl (if that's what you're still called). I met Nikos once but lacked in conversational skills. You have Kelso to thank for my contribution.
So he gave me 6ft fence and cleandirtyverse recently, and I listened, and liked, and then he said he would break my legs if I didn't give some constructive criticism, so I employed the powers of the internet and came here, only to find a message board overrun with Texan cowboys, so I thought I would mainline some life back into it.
So definitely enjoying the music. They've been pressed on me at a time when I haven't been listening to guitar music at all for several months, so congratulations. I particularly liked the epic qualities of cleandirtyverse, and the glockenspiel? at the end of Your C4. Nice touch. It's a very lovely tune. Makes me want to run up a hill and swing my arms wide in a sweeping panorama at the top after succesfully dealing with some emotional problems.
I think I'd like to read the lyrics. There's bits where I can't quite catch what's being said, but the bits I am hearing are interesting and thoughtful and, dare I use the Word... original.
I think my favourite on it is a disappointing cycle ride for the musicianship, although it ends a bit suddenly; I really like the melody, it makes me want to see you live, which is the best thing a CD can do. Beve's rendition of it the other day gave nothing away of the full splendour, so I guess credit goes to drums'n'bass. But then he was drunk.
Ok I would do 6ft fence as well but that's all in the past now and I can't be bothered, but generally you're a very tight band and both cds are pretty accomplished for 'this is my friend's band'. I like that there's a lot of variety between tracks and... they've got that thing where you're like 'I've heard this before.. wait, no.. it just sounds like something else.. but isn't.. cool'. Hotch's voice on moth eaten just made me go, 'ooh he sounds like Jim Morrison.. no, actually Bowie.. wait, no, that's not it.. Nick Cave?' Can't put my finger on it, but that's so often the mark of really good tunes, the ones that echo something you think you've heard before, but which are actually just resonating with you yourself. Nice.
