Subject: Another adventure

Hi everyone,
I decided it was time for another post on this message board. So, I'll offer my little adventure. This weekend Ian, myself and another friend are going backpacking in what is becoming a home away from home -- the Adirondacks. (Or, "The Dacks") We're leaving Friday night camping Friday either at the car or a mile or two in. Then hiking a high peak on Saturday, camping Saturday night and hiking a couple more peaks on Sunday if there is time. The weather is going to be cold and we're bringing snowshoes. It'll probably be similar to our October trip, but we'll have more winter gear with us this time! And, now we've done the winter camping trip so we're a bit more prepared :)

The weekend before last Ian and I went to Lake Placid for my birthday. It was a lot of fun. The original plan was to ski Saturday and hang out in town on Sunday. We got up early and went to Whiteface and there were high winds and they couldn't open the lifts except for a couple small ones at the bottom. We weren't sure if it was worth buying a ticket. So (along with alot of other people) we hung around for a couple hours until ~ 9:30 to see if more would open up. One more lift to mid-mountain opened but at reduced speed and with a huge line because there was no where else to go. I got to talking to a man in the lodge, while Ian was scoping out the situation, who already with his son had tickets for the day. He knew the mountain and we told him we were trying to decide if it was worth buying a ticket. He kind of said it wasn't and we were thinking that too. His friend worked at the mountain and he said there was a 2 for 1 deal good on Sundays. It turned out to be a coupon his friend had. He made us wait there he went back to his car, or locker or something just to get it for us so we could use it on Sunday. Wasn't that nice? So, we hung out in lake placid on Saturday. We were going to try cross country skiing, but there were junior olympic races going on there, so they didn't have the trails open to the public. Then we went shopping and to watch junior olympic ski jumping that night -- that was pretty cool. These kids go off the olympic jumps!! Then we went for a great dinner. Sunday we went skiing and every lift was open and it was sunny and beautiful so it was definitely the better day to ski. So it was a fun weekend.

Wow, that was a lot of typing..... Ok, that's my post :)

Laura
