] Date Posted: Wed, Oct 18 2006, 1:25:45 I attended my 3rd session with IRN last evening and I tell you, its the SAME silly tactics as what I attended 4 years ago. This time though, they changed things a little. Instead of IRN marketing it directly, they engaged Events Plus to head it. Instead of telling you, you had won a prize, they tell you you have won ONE of the following 4 prizes (1st - Osim Massage Chair worth S$3888! Wow!...2nd S$1,000 Robinsons Voucher...3rd Mp3 player, 4th S$700 travel & spa voucher). What they did not tell you is that you will end up with the lousiest of the 4 (ie, the lousy voucher that gets you nowhere). I attended the first session out of ignorance, 2nd one, because I wanted to help a pitiful student who wanted some pocket money for his studies in doing the survey. The 3rd one for my wife to gain some 'experience'. Since the 1st session (which I was threatened, pressured, psychoed etc), I knew what they were doing because I called up these property owners directly OVERSEAS. I was informed after a casual chat with one of the managers from these property owners that ATC basically bought 1 or 2 units from hotels that were relatively 'unpopular'. They fill these up with members from different countries who bought 'legitimate' memberships. However, each unpopular location has only 1 or 2 units on average. Now imagine, 5% of 20,000 members in Singapore wanted to go say Shanghai which they have only 2 hotel rooms. That is, around 1,000 people. Multiply that by 5 countries (cos they also have memberships like you, and perhaps at even cheaper rates - eg. S$2k in India). So, you have 5,000 people in a year vying to sleep in that pathetic room in the Shanghai hotel with you. Good Luck if you can get a place! Of course, you also have to continue paying your maintenance fees as long as you are stuck as a member. Also, the calculation is simple. S$200 maintenance plus depreciation of membership per year of S$1,000. Already you're paying S$1,200 UPFRONT per year. Is this savings? No, its losses. The reason why the Law can't do anything to these people is because, you cannot tangibly value their services & assets by any specific individual member's fees. The best the government can do is allow you to cancel the agreement within say 3 days. Problem is, many people don't know what they are in until its too late after the 'cooling off' period is over. Want to kill them? Simple, spread the word and let those who sign up all cancel their contracts within the legitimate period. IRN, LGM, ERI etc etc, will have to pay the salaries of their staff for free. How long do you think they can last? Perfect knowledge will kill the fraudsters.
