I would like to state that my daughter had been out of pageants for around a year, and this past weekend was to be her return to the fun, fancy world of pageantry, however that was not to be. Numerous people were told that it was a semi glitz pageant...hmm tell that to the mother who freaked because her little son was thought to have eaten her older daughter's flipper...lol. The farce that took place this weekend at Ohio University Nelson Commons with the Southern Celebrity Ohio Open State Pageant was nothing less than a ploy for free publicity at the expense of many Southern Ohio children, my daughter included. A particular child who is very popular in the Toddler and Tiara TV world, showed up for what we all thought was to be a BOOK SIGNING the Friday nite before the pageant, however much to our dismay, this same child had a 20 x 30 poster of herself and her book title gleaming proudly on an easel in clear sight of hopeful contestants and judges passing through to the ballroom. People specifically asked if this child was competing, and the director continually denied this. However, upon entering the ballroom one was drawn almost instantly to the buzz in the far left corner of the room, where a display of a simple doll and the stage props of this same child appear almost shrine-like. Copies of books were being sold and autographed at $12.00 a pc, with the dolls rumored to sell for $100.00 a pc. HMMM, that's bad enough, however, upon entering the ballroom a little further, one is quickly taken over by the barrage of cameras following certain children around. It should be noted that all children being followed placed at least queen in their age division, as well as, many supremed. Coincidence?...I do believe so. I am all for free enterprise, but if someone wants to market their show or their daughter, they do not need to do so at my child's expense. I don't feel that either my daughter, or any of the other fine children of Rural Southern Ohio were given a fair shake at this farce of a pageant. My husband had to work 2nd shift and we were not allowed to take pictures either....but we could surely buy their $60 video, etc. Yeah right! Things actually got worse! The day drug oooonnnnn, and my daughter hadn't eaten for the better part of the day, so she said she wanted chicken nuggets from McD. I went to get them and when I returned, two girls came over to me and stated that I couldnt have that in the ballroom...because it's a catered facility and their was food available on the grounds. I plainly told them that i was not going to make my child stand out in the cold and eat, nor was i going to concede to anymore of their controlling anarchy....I was simply fed up! To make matters worse, when leaving with two very tired little girls under the age of 7 and a little boy less than a year old, not to mention the two upset mothers carrying their totes of pageant necessities in the freezing cold and drizzle of rain/snow/sleet mix, myself and the other mother took turns watching the children so we could move our vehicles closer. As the other mother left, the girls were laughing and having fun, and we were shushed instantly by a guy who was doing some sound stuff for the big TV Show! It was unreal!!! They got the first and last bits of money they will get from me....Sham, Sham, Sham and shame, shame, shame!!!
