I am 22 and have taken ballet for 8 months and am now on pointe with no problems. My arches are strong along with my legs. I have a good arch, my toes can touch the floor when my feet are streched. Granted I can't stay on pointe the whole class yet, but this is my first month on pointe or my 9th month total. I took dance for 7 years when I was young, and stopped when I was fourteen, but I only took ballet for 2 of those years. I and a very physically active person so maybe that's why my teacher saw that I had enough strength. I can stretch farther than any of the girls in the class who have taken for years. I feel sort of stupid for saying all this, but my pointe is that it's possible to start on pointe now. I think that it varies by person and their ability, but you keep working at it and you'll get to those toe shoes that you covet so much.
