One of the topics that seems to be recurrent on this site is virginity. I also think it’s a very important thing to discuss, and teenagers usually have a lot of doubts about it. I made most of those questions I was young, as well.
One of them, a 16 year-old male, asked how he could know if he was a virgin or not. I thought the answers very interesting. Of course, the logical answer is that both man and woman lose their virginity when they have sex, but some of the answers also told that virginity is related to feelings, to your emotion towards the other, meaning that you lose it when you have sex with a person you really care and love.
Another question that is an issue is about parents wanting to “test” if their daughter is still virgin. This is an old question, but I liked that the answers encouraged the young female to tell the truth for her parents, and that they also stated that only a doctor can really tell if a woman is virgin or not.
One of the questions that had most answers was one of a 14 year-old female that has a boyfriend in the same age, and he asked her if they could lose their virginity together. She says she really loves him, but feels too young, and scared to do that. She asked for some opinions. It’s interesting to note that only woman answered her (I think it’s because they could understand her problem better – I believe that we, men, have another point of view in this cases). But the answers were sweet, and explained to her that she should do it only when she feels prepared for it. One of the girls answering to her, gave a long one, explaining her a lot of things, and saying in the end that “information and communication is the key here”. She couldn’t be more right.
Another question was made by a 15 year-old male, that is worried about the fact that he is still a virgin, but his girlfriend isn’t. He says that this makes him feel inferior, and awkward. In this questions, all the answers were made by men, of course. They told him that he doesn’t need to feel pressured to be the first one of a girl, and that he will eventually get over this feelings once he has sex. The last answer even said to him, “don’t have sex to her until you feel comfortable”.
This site is really interesting, I even recommended it to some teen friends that I have. Even in the 21st Century, sex is still a big source of doubts, but it’s great that nowadays we have so much ways of getting information about it. Of course the best thing is to talk to our parents, but that is not always a possibility, since this topic is surrounded by shame, or misconceptions. So, in this cases, sites like this one are a great way of getting those hard answers.
