Subject: Reading III

1. The text I chose this time was “Peanuts Creator Schulz Dies On Eve Of Last Strip”, because I love the Peanuts comic strip.

2. The article is about the death of one of the most famous cartoonists in the world: Charles Schulz, who created the Peanuts comic strip decades ago. Schulz suffered from colon cancer and died on the day before his last drawings being published. His comic strip was considered the most popular in the world, since many people identified themselves with the characters in the stories. The main character, Charlie Brown, who is considered by many people as Schulz alter ego, is also considered by most of them as the portrayal of the Everyman. People who identified themselves with the stories during their childhood did not stopped reading the strips when grown ups. The death of Schulz also meant the end of new Peanuts comic strip stories, since Schulz’s family decided with him, before his death, that no one would draw the strip he drew during nearly 50 years.

3. I had a great performance while doing the exercises. I had some problems with vocabulary again, but I was quite good in the other exercises (my overall average was 90%).

4. English learners should visit the website in order to improve their reading and writing skills with authentic texts. The exercises are excellent and they can give students instantaneous feedback. At the end of the activities, readers can leave their opinion about the text, writing the answer for the question proposed by the website. Intermediate and upper-intermediate students can learn a lot with this website.
