Subject: Reading III

Summary: The Future of communications

The text is about communications, how technology will change the ways we use to communicate and how things will be easier in the future. First the text tells that the year 2000 will be the year for communications and in the next future we will have new communications devices. After that it talks about the internet, its facilities and how it would improve our quality of life and our reading and wrinting skills. On the other hand, the text tells that we have to see if the Internet will be a good thing or a bad thing in the future and that we have to analyse what is information and how it is being treated. Finally it talks that the predictions are not sure, but it is fun to try to imagine the future world and, maybe, some of the predictions will really happen.

Your response will be added to the other learner thoughts printed below.
1. Do you believe that better communications could lead people to understand each other better and make the world a better place? Why or why not?
2. Would you want people to always be able to see you while you are talking on the phone? Why or shy not?
3. Do you believe the predictions about communications that are in this article? What do you think communications might be like in the next 20 years?

MY MESSAGE:

I belive that communications could make the world a better place because we live in a big planet and we are not able to talk with everybody, so with communications we have the oportunity to share our thoughts and try to solve some problems togheter, but I think I would not like to be "watched" all the time while I am talking on the phone because sometimes I need some privacy and I think it will be possible, but we have the right to choose if we want or not. There are many predictions about the future, some of them, maybe, are correct and I think if we use technology in a right way, communications will be very useful in the next 20 years.

My Opinion about the site: I think this site is very good for a second language learner because the same text has different "patterns" so it helps to find the main idea of the text. The exercices are very good too, they are a little bit different but I liked.
