Hi Missy69:
Well, I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas, giving you good memories.
A few years ago, we set a goal to pay off our debts, and to remain debt free. It was hard at first, especially at special times like Christmas. But one thing I learned is that my family knows I love them, and that I can show my love without overspending.
It's a shame that big business has caused Christmas to become so materialistic, putting undo pressure and stress onto people to give "the big gift".
Our kids are teens now, and I've tried to explain to them that the importance to the gift is the thought that is put into it, not the price. (I don't want them to think they have to blow their bank accounts to buy their dad and I marvelous gifts.) They surprised us with gifts that were things that they noticed we could enjoy ... and kept to their budgets too.
Missy - Perhaps what you can do is sit down with your hubby, and set out a budget for the year, including savings for next Christmas. Then you can relax and enjoy a debt free Christmas.... believe me, it is so nice not worrying about the bills while watching the family opening their gifts.
I took a look at the link at the top of this forum. It has some good stuff in it. Take a look at it, the information could help you head in the right direction.
Take care,
HappyMom
