Suggesting that MLAs defending very narrow wins last time might lose is a far cry from suggesting "big names will fall." The suggestion implies losses that were not to be expected. If the SaskParty does win (as I have been predicting throughout, young grasshopper)then it is almost a given that folks like Hamilton and Thomson fall. Heck, it isn't beyond reaon that the NDP could win while some of those Minisers and ex-Ministers fall.

As to a "weasely" campaign -- you shouldn't take it out on me that Reg Downs has demonstrated his complete incompetence. He has run exactly the wrong campaign and if your party DOES win, it will be in spite of yourselves.

Reg has built the entire campaign around a leader with high negatives. There has been scarcely a mention of any of your name candidates, whether incumbents like Brad Wall, or candidates like Ted Merriman. When Elwin should have sought to look like a premier in the debate, he chose instead to look like a Mack Truck on steroids. Your attack ads on the Crown issue (which began with big block letters saying "Hermanson will privatize the Crowns") were so badly designed that most people I've talked to thought they were NDP attack ads. By the time your "liar" came on the screen, all but the most addicted of political junkies had stopped watching. Of course, instead of making the coherent case for privatization (and there is one to be made) you tried to pretend that the four "core Crowns" were sacred. But your inept leader couldn't even stay on message for an hour at his platform launch and essentially handed the issue back to us by admitting he'd be open to offers on anything but the AutoFund.

Heck, you even ended up mishandling the cartoon. You did quite well for the first couple of days -- Elwin with a tear in his eye was the most human picture ever taken of him, Elwin taking the high road was just the right response. And then you over-reached, demanding that every addressee on the email string be fired. In the SaskParty universe, receiving an unsolicited email is a firing offence. You looked petty at best and scary at worst.

This was your election to win or lose. The fact that it is too close to call as the polls open is a testament to Reg Downs' utter ineptitude. If you do manage to pull off a win, the good news for us is that Reg will probably be in charge of communications for the government.

Speaking of "weasels:" Is it standard SaskParty practice to refer to New Democrats as "communists," as Yogi Huygebaert regularly does in Wood River? Is it standard SaskParty practice to dodge election spending rules by distributing a slander sheet full of half truths and claiming it isn't from any party, as Dan Thibault's campaign has done in Wascana Plains? Is it standard SaskParty practice to claim that any person who questions George Bush's war in Iraq supported the attacks on September 11, 2001, as Brenda Bakken and Doreen Eagles have done publicly?

Something about the log in your own eye, young grasshopper.
