Speaking for myself..the question is not whether the Pyramid is just a funerary structure

the question is what was the nature of Royal Funerary arrangements in the Old Kingdom

or to be more precise...

Why did they build pyramid complexes rather than mastabas.

In my opinion they were somehow assisting the King in his Go between role with the Divine.

This was either a case of them attempting to effect change, stop change or just maintaining the norm..or a possible combination of all three.

It certainly isn't as black and white as you maintain.
