Hi Pete and Richard,

Lenher (page 29) says: " Here, '( Akhet Khufu)' and in the Pyramid Texts, Akhet is written with the crested ibis and elliptical land sign, not with the hieroglyph of the sun disk between two mountains that was later used to write horizon ".

He also says that the word had a deeper meaning in the OK, using the same root as Akh,Akhet was a place where the dead were " transformed into effective inhabitants of the world beyond death".

Seemingly then, the later rendering had lost some of its original meaning.

Pete, Lenher also is of the opinion that both Sunrise and Sunset had equal magical sigificance as indicating that the area below the horizon was a " place of glorification".

Just to add a rider here, we don't always fully grasp the meaning of many Ancient Egyptian words and phrases, limited as we are by our modern thinking and language.

Cheers

Ian
