Subject: Howard Carter and the British Establishment

During a conversation with a friend yesterday, the subject of Howard Carter cropped up. One of the peculiar aspects of his life, and indeed his great acheivement was the total lack of offical recognition at the time from the BM, The Gov, and British Academic Institutions. Been digging a little, but can't really find anything useful.

Some have said it was because Carter was not a member of the Academic Community, and also have blamed Carter's own personality. Perhaps he wasn't his own best friend, moody, bad tempered and introverted. I need to find out more.

Any sources ?

Cheers

Ian
