Hi Warwick,

What impressed me was the extraordinary smoothness of the side of slab, considering it has been exposed to the elements for such a long time. And it looked pretty flat over an extremely large area of several square feet, although I had know way of technically verifying this.

Robert Schoch has this to say after seeing the photos:

"The rock looks like a fairly typical ribbon calcite or flow stone (see for instance http://www.uh.edu/~jbutler/kunming/geologicfactors.html and http://www.johnharveyphoto.com/Horne%20Lake/Geology.html ). I have seen a lot of this in Egypt. It is a fairly soft and easily worked rock."
