I can see why Deanna would recommend Karl for Co-HoR. He was for several semesters a RA on Second Sunset. But me? There's an amusing story behind this.

It must have been October 76 when we all woke up to find all the shower curtains in the dorm had disappeared. Most suspected that members of Cance or Moore were responsible. There was always a friendly rivalry with our neighboring dorms. Deanna tried her best to get to the bottom of this since I can only assume there were no new shower curtains coming from whatever part of the UMass bureaucracy dealt with dorm shower curtains.

Having been an escapee from the 4th Party floor and never liking the attitude of the most radical faction there (see previous post), I thought they were fair game.

So I wrote up a phony ransom note that went something like this: “If you ever want to see your shower curtains alive, send up 3 kegs of beer to the fourth floor at 2:15am. And NO COPS!

The note was hung on a bathroom mirror on Second Sunset where it was found by a maid. (Maid? Were they really called Maids?) She dutifully brought it down to the HoR. It was so ridiculous I never thought it would be taken seriously. Yet it was.

I chuckled for hours as Karl told me how the note was affecting the investigation. It must have been around 4-5pm that it dawned on me that if Deanna was following this false lead, we’d never get our shower curtains back by tomorrow morning.

I went down to her office to confess.

After Deanna officially recommended Karl and I for Co-HoR I asked her why me? She said my confession demonstrated integrity. She ignored the part of how I let her bark up the wrong tree for 6-7 hours.
