So I only check occasionally, here you are. Remember the opening weekend, meeting everybody, sorting out who we were going to be? I was roommate with Dick Sleeper, a red headed team leader of some sort. Soon was sneaking through the window to ground floor room of Mary Crittendon. We married, then divorced – haven’t seen her since 1972.

Marge Foote. Michael something, playwright/poet strange faculty guy. The one armed botanist who drove us out into the woods for class – Jerry Jenkins. I only remember bits and pieces. The panty raid that first weekend. I organized Beanies for Biafra with some others to divert the stupid freshman beanie purchase money to hunger relief. I remember the sit-in with Jerry Jenkins at the Admin building where we dragged trees in that were being cut down in protest to the Treasurers office. And the sit-in that we got arrested for – the Valentines Day Massacre, Dow chemical – big scandal, sitting in at a public university. How dare we!

And the stereo in the lounge – best sound I’d ever heard. Didn’t last long, but I remember when somebody brought in the first record ever seen on this continent of the Beatles Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and how we played it over and over in the lounge.

I dropped out in 1970, worked in a curtain factory in Holyoke, started as a community organizer in 1971 and never looked back. I now run a foundation that funds community organizing nationwide.

Love to hear from other Year 1’s who can enhance recollections.

I have yearbook somewhere with photos of protests we did of 1968 presidential elections. Will scan and post.
