Subject: I finally read the Da Vinci Code

Following Norma advice I am posting about my first reaction on the Da Vinci code and my first reaction is "nothing new under the sun"

When I was a young teenager in Sicily my family would tell me that Mary Magdalene had to be Jesus lover at the very least (common law wife) or his legal wife. She was everywhere where he was, even when he died. About Jesus Christ being celibate, my mother thought it would be impossible when he was surrounded by so many female friends (Mary Magdelene, Martha and Mary (sisters of Lazarus), etc..) so unless he were gay, he had to have a wife someplace or a lover...

Few years later in the US, I watched a Merv Griffin show where they were interviewing so and so who was saying that Mary Magdelene fled with Jesus children after the death of Jesus to France, just like the Da Vinci Code describes.

Two years ago I read the book "Bloodline of the Holy Grail" by Laurence Gardner which gives very historical detail and pages and pages of family trees of how the bloodline has been transmitted by the royal families once it intermarried into the Merovingian line.

However, what I enjoyed about the Da Vinci it that it can present the information into a novel and condense it in a pleasurable format and neatly present in few lines what is presented in pages and pages in other books. And at the same time it taught me more stuff. I never knew about the Priory of Sion and knew very little about the secret rituals of these secret societies, such as Masons, Rosicrusians, Templars, etc.. (although the book I mentioned talks about them too). About the Templars, I have a friend who has visited several Templar churches in Spain where the mosaics or paintings there depict more of sodonomy sex rituals.

One bit of information that i found fascinating in the Da Vinci code was the role of the troubadors, the minstrels in Southern France (mainly Provence) who would extoll the virtues of the Lady. I took a medioeval literature course about Dante last year and we had much discussion about the Lady, and the teacher directed us into believing that the lady was a symbol for Philosophy. According to the Da Vinci Code, the lady was Mary Magdalene and the Goddess in general. Note how Philosophy has Sophia as its root and Sophia is the ancient word of Wisdom. So, the professor did not necessarily perpetuate a lie that was was given to her... because is it really a lie or just a distortion?... Philosophy means "Love of Sophia" or "Love of Wisdom."

That's it for now. If I thing of something else, I will post it.

Before I forget, I read the Bloodline of the Holy Grail two years ago between July 25 and July 27. I found that very significant, because in the Catholic church July 25 is the feast of Mary Magdelene and July 27 is the feast of St. James, brother of Jesus (July 26 is St. Anna, mother of Mary). According to the book, James fled to France with Magdelene, so I found the coincidence of my reading the book on these dates too much of a coincidence. I took it as a sign and validation.

Love,
Maria
