Subject: Julian King

Dear Editor,
I am all for defending the freedom of speech by journalists or anybody by that matter. However, before we all jump up and down about the arrest of Julian King in East Timor, let me tell you something. I am not surprise that he has ammunition in his home. I have met Julian King a number of times and have spoke to many others, who spoke of intimidation, physical and verbal threats by him. He and a group of former resistance fighters, in particularly, a man by the name of David Smith, are known among the East Timorese people and many foreign NGO workers as thugs. They took things from CNRT and kept them for themselves. Including a van that is currently parked outside David Smith's house in Balide. Perhaps, you need to do more homework, before jumping into conclusion. Julian King may be a freelance journalist, but it does not take away the fact that he is also a thug. i am not a fan of Mari Alkatiri, but Julian King is certainly not the hero journalist, he is a nuisance to East Timor, and I personally think it is better for him to leave us along.
