Subject: OK- I SAW CINDERELLA MAN.. HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS---->>>

Russell has become a big star and we have come to know too many things about him (especially lately with all the emails) to make him "anonymous" on the screen.

The film is "ok". I do not think it is great. I realize that this may be my first impression and being tired or hungry or whatever may have colored my first impression. BUT this is not a film I am likely to see again. There was SO MUCH BOXING in it and I spent SO MUCH time with my face buried in my hands or my eyes shut that I cannot imagine spending the money to sit in that same posture again.

There is a LOT of boxing in this film. It is relentless! And I did not enjoy it. Others might- but not I.

I am not sure WHY the film was not as engaging as other films Ron Howard has made. It may be that there was so much boxing that the rhythm and tension that makes a movie zip along was thwarted. The film is beautifully made, the acting is good, but somehow it doesn't quite gel.

Renee is ok- but I did not geel chemistry between her character and RC's. again- not sure why. She spends the film with her lips sort of puckerd and pinched. It was odd. (And I am a Renee fan- so that was not a factor.)

Most of the music was sentimental and too loud- as tho they felt the need to FORCE YOU TO GET THE POINT.. I am intelligent. I get the point- the music should have been toned down a wee bit.

Giamatti was great, as others have said. He is always interesting to watch. I am not sure he is acting or being himself, but it worked here.

Russell. Well. He looks good. The accent was odd and sometimes it disappeared.. his deep fabulous voice was altered to this somewhat high pitched level and it made me miss his regular deep voice. I think this was part of the "acting".

Russell looks physically great- but there are so few scenes where he is not getting the sh*te beat out of him that you don't get the chance to enjoy looking at his beautiful physique. There was one scene before the big fight with Baer where he is NOT getting hammered and he does look fabulous and you get to see those arms and neck etc. but it is far too short! LOL I could have stopped the film right there for about 20 minutes.

Now that we know RC so well, it is hard to not see RUSSELL instead of Braddock. It took me quite awhile to move from seeing RC to seeing the character. (not Russell's fault I think- it is the director here). The film is too long, as many US films these days. They could elimiate about 20 minutes and it would be a crisper film.

Russell gave as good a performance as you would hope for or expect. But for me, there was something missing in this film and not the emotional connection we have come to expect when he appears on screen. And in similar situations, I would often see a film a second time to see if I was just out of sorts or the like, but I cannot sit through another 2 hours of two men bashing each other- it is not enjoyable to me. So maybe Ron Howard and Russell made this movie for the male audience. And I am sure they will enjoy it.

Okay. That is my two cents worth!
