I am dating myself, I went to camp recro located in harriman state park as a camper from 1947 to 1952, and was a councilor in 1953.
I use to go there with a group of my Albanian friends and cousins from the lower east side.
We have such wonderful memories of that place. It was a
beautiful setting and very rustic. We use to go there for three weeks every summer. What fun for a group of kids from the lower east side.
Anyone out there from that time frame, please reply.

There was a day camp in Staten Island that was run by Recreation Rooms and Settlement Houses. That is the same organization that "ran" Mikan and Recro. I lived in the Lillian Wald Housing Project and went to Staten Island from the day camp during the summer when I wasn't at Camp Mikan. My experiences in both places were wonderful. I hope yours were too.
