As is most coaches I am wrapt with the players I received in the draft.

Shannon Hurn- 188cm/92kg. Ready to go defender/midfielder with leadership ability and his head screwed on right. Some like Mojo and Wisbey had him at number two and one respectively which says to me the boy can play.

Grant Birchall- 192cm/84kg. Key position defender with speed and a penetrating kick. Think James Clement and you wouldn't be far wrong.

Austin Lucy- 190cm/90kg. Selected very late although some onlookers including burgatron had him in the teen selections. Fullback with AFL ready body.

Michael West- 195cm/86kg. Risky selection as he has done his knee. He did it in round 6 this year, so will take until round 6 next year to get it right. Will take the season to get it ready. Big preseason for 2007 and he will be very valuable. Kicked 13 goals in 2 quarters before he went down injured. Billy Morrison, Courtney Johns risk but with pick 55 I think I'll get over it if it doesn't come off, if it does I will have one good player to see me into the future.

Players I was interested in that I didn't get;

Darren Pfeiffer- Sounds the good and neally took him with second pick. Grant Birchall was too much a loss to take him though. Tough tackler, Hurn a Pfieffer would of been good together. Good luck who selected him, I think your on to someone there.

Mitchell Clark- Agonised between Hurn and Clark with my first pick, as I was hoping Hurn may of been there with my 13 pick. When he was selected pick 8, it was disappointing. If he gets well, and is coached right, he will be a star.

John Anthony- Although he went pick 37 there is whispers that he is the goods. Wisbey says think Clement in the backline, and Bradshaw forward. Hopefully for the Pies and whoever picked him in the Super League he becomes one of those that has other clubs kicking themselves they didn't get him when they had the chance.

Travis Baird- I reckon he will make it, just slow to come through. May of selected him over West, as West is a risk. Didn't have the chance, now the risk is there but could turn out beneficial. Baird has the body, know just has to use the bloody thing.

Pick 22
Daniel Stanley
I wanted the best Midfielder I could get with Pick 22.
With Shane Crawford and Adam Simpson coming to the end of their careers, I needed a replacement.
Was very pleased to pick up Stanley.
Also as a Collingwood player, I have a better chance of keeping up with his progress.

Pick 33
Michael Rix
I had success this year with a mature ruckman in Ben Hudson.
With Hudson having a Knee Reco, I felt I needed another ruckman to help Hille and Hale. Rix was the obvious choice. A mature ruckman at 24.B&F at Coburg.
Hopefully would have same impact as Hudson.

Pick 42
Kasey Green
Played well in the GF. Needed a change of club.
Happy to help him out at the DAWKS.

Interested Players
Well with first pick at 22, would have to be realistic.
Hoped Pfeiffer or Bailey would slip through to 22.
Tuck, Vince and Addison (He is from my Local Senior Footy club St George. Know his dad quite well) were in my mind for Pick 33.

1 Pick in the PSD at Pick 12.

Maxwell
