Subject: Focus on the service

There are many things in the works right now and rest assured only the opening salvos have been fired. People, remember one thing through all of this, it is bigger than the politics. This goes to the very heart of the way we as fire fighters are able to conduct the essential services that we provide to the community on a daily basis. I know that screams politics, and you are probably right that decisions were politically driven here from the mayor and all of council, BUT their actions have a much more grave consequence than just the politics involved here. They have seriously compromised the lives of the community called W-B, and they have seriously compromised the safety of every fire fighter that reports for duty from this point on. We will try our best to change this terrible situation. They need to see that their choice is the wrong choice. I will continue to make every effort to educate them, pressure them, and help them see that at some point something as simple as the number 17 does matter when it is a number that ensures that fire fighters operating as a company of three makes things safer for all. Remember, we asked for no increase in the minimum staffing beyond the 17 we were able to make work. For our sake and yours we need to focus on the service, more than the politics. It's about the people, not an elected office or job.
