I totally agree with confusion and ditto. The elected officals have NO RIGHT asking the employees to even consider paying for the benefits.Especially when they sat idle for all those years and watched what was happening. It
has only been in the past year or so that they even attemped to put the reins on McG. Why did not they do that several years ago? It only started happening as it was getting closer to election and so much writing was on the wall about McG. and the problems that they had to to save their own political necks. Another thing is have we all forgotten 9-11? How many firefighters and police officers died that day? How many more will suffer and their families from the stress, clean up,toxins,etc..that was exacted upon them? Asking the firefighters and police officers to pay for benefits is like asking the military members to pay for their benefits. We forget that they are our first line of defense here at home.
I have a real problem with fire and police members not having their benefits afforded to them as part of their job pay.Hell, look at the teachers, all politicians, elected officals, county workers, they all make sure they have theirs, when they don't,they either strike or raise taxes to make sure they have theirs.Firefighters and Police officers don't strike, they keep working, with or without a contract to provide their upmost professional services.Have we also forgotten that it was the "vote for me" politicans that caused the problems in the first place? Straighten out the mess by doing everything else possible first before even one should even consider taking away from these men and women(fire and police)who definitly deserve those benefits for themselevs and their families.Their working enviorment in the first place places them at risk for so many things, especially the one biggie everyone forgets about.STRESS..How much stress where they under not only from the everyday duties they face, but the stressful work enviorment they had to deal with for the last 8-12 years under those administrations? Leave them alone.
