Like I said...YAWN!

Look. I like reading your stuff. I really do. So, relax.

Sometimes I read your stuff because you write about an interesting topic. Other times, I'll admit, I read out of the same morbid curiosity that drives people to slow down at the scene of an automobile accident. I, like those drivers, am half-expecting to see something dreadful. Like those drivers, sometimes I'm dissapointed.

Other times, however, I get the carnage.

What sort of carnage? Let's start with labelling your editorials as news articles.

For example, let's look at the story about the MISD's plan to provide laptops for the students. It's a news article, right? Well, no. The moment you inject your personal opinion into the article, it becomes an editorial. An opinion piece.

You already have Duff, Doug, and Jimmie to provide their opinions, for what they're worth. You, my friend, are supposedly the investigative journalist. In this capacity, you have the ability to shape (slant) the story in whatever manner you see fit. That's accepted as part of the journalist's job. But the moment "I think," or, "this reporter will vote against it," or the like creeps into the story, it becomes more than a news story.

Do I have a real problem with that? No...but it's not good journalism, which was my earlier point.

So, to answer your question: Could I do better? Sure.

Should this bother you? No. Keep on working. You're building the foundation for bigger, better things.
