And yet - if the kiss was meant romantically, it's quite a liberty taken as John has not confided his inclinations to Stephan. I'm inclined to think it is just Stephan's nature but it perhaps disturbed him as much as it does John. It's interesting how some people can be so overt and casually physical with others and you know the intent is non-threatening and can even welcome the embrace as just 'his way'.
