In reply to: Jane 's message, "Catherine you are definitely one of the people who post here who's posts always impresses me! Especially when you and Jessie put your heads together and create those AMAZING Broch talk discussion launches. While you and everyone else here are always very kind and never condescending, I often feel unworthy to post on the same boards as you. I can't even say how much your comments mean to me. I lurk on CompuServe pretty frequently, usually when someone points me to a discussion they think will interest me, but have never ever posted there. I would be very interested in knowing how many people I know from here feel comfortable about posting there." on 21:25:06 12/14/07 Fri

First of all, nobody ought to feel intimidated in either place, because both sites are teeming with very pleasant, respectful, intelligent, and genuinely enthusiastic readers of DG's work, but the sites do have a different "feel" . . . The CompuServe forum is fascinating for three reasons: First, Herself does respond to questions and comments over there in her own folder, and that is an incomparable bonus! Second, many of the posters over there are novelists also and it is interesting to see the evolution of their own work and the reactions to each other's fiction in the Research and Craft folder; Third, it is really neat to see Herself post evolving snippets and give and get feedback to and from other writers in that same R and C folder. That site and this one have an interesting mix of people who have been thinking Deep Thoughts about Diana's fiction for a long time and breathless newcomers; my impression, however, is that here are more of the latter over there and more of the former here. I do not say that disrespectfully, as I was a breathless newcomer myself less than two years ago and am humbly grateful for having been welcomed both places. However, although nobody ought to feel intimidated going from one site to the other -- we're all so verra nice! -- I suspect more people would be nervous coming from there to this one: the conversations over here are pretty sophisticated! And YOU are part of THAT!
