Yes he is. I like the way the friendship develops. When we meet Harry in Voyager, all the elements of the hard-drinking, womanising, larger-than-life personality are there, drawn very deftly. Yet John does not see him as a friend, mentally calling him a "bullet-headed fool" - although that was partly because he was feeling tense at discovering that Fraser was incarcerated at Ardmuir. He also suspected Harry of enjoying discomfiting him by referring to his past experience with Jamie at Carryarrick. Harry was a friend of Hal's prior to John becoming better acquainted with him in PM. Quarry transferred to the 46th from another regiment so it's likely John didn't know him well at this point. Likewise - John's initial impression of Stephan changed with time and familiarity. I think it may have to do with John's youth, he's less cautious with his opinions than he becomes later on. - You're right about John and Harry - I asked Diana about this a few weeks ago and she said that at the time we first meet Harry in VOYAGER, Lord John knows him only as a long-time friend of Hal's. It's only later that Harry and John become friends. (NT) -- Karen, 07:25:05 01/09/08 Wed
