Subject: I love this line, though I thought this observation was rather harsh; Lord John is not usually given to this sort of sarcasm except when thinking about the military bureaucracy. Was anybody else surprised to find Edgar so different from John (and from Hal, too)?

  • I would have thought since they all had the redoubtable Benedicta for a mother they would all be pretty darn smart and slightly sarcastic like she is. John no doubt picked up his Mother's sharp wit. Remember when she told her friend who could never imagine reading a book as large as Pamela that "she wouldn't understand" anyways?
