Subject: Stubbs was the lieutenant who helped LJ with the Irish murderer mystery. His father is a minor baronet, he has a little money but not a lot; he is not a member of The Beefsteak and I got the idea (IMO) that he wouldn't quite pass muster to be allowed to join. When Stubbs asked to court Olivia he admitted that she has better prospects; I got the impression that he wasn't a great suitor less due to rank or money but more that he is uncouth and just not-so-nice. Again, IMO, Stubbs is one of the characters whose name reflects what is he.
